ARECA Insurance Exchange

The ARECA Insurance Exchange (AIE) is the clear choice for nonprofit utilities in Alaska seeking to effectively manage and lower the total cost of their risk. The Exchange provides an investment opportunity while offering competitive premiums for a number of lines of business insurance needed by member utilities.

In 1983, swings in the insurance market left many Alaskan businesses scrambling for a way to cover their risk as companies limited their offerings. In the continuing cooperative spirit of working together to meet a challenge, Alaska Power Association members formed the Exchange to ensure nonprofit utilities access to critical insurance coverage at reasonable rates.

More than 20 Alaska utilities are members of the Exchange. The policyholders are also the owners of the Exchange, and receive a share of the company's annual underwriting and investment profits. Historically, subscribing utilities have benefited from both below-market premiums and a return from investments averaging about 20 cents on every premium dollar spent with the Exchange.

If you are a representative of a utility interested in joining the Exchange, please contact us. Only utilities organized as nonprofit in their articles of incorporation are eligible for membership.
